In afro hair the curvature of the follicle inside the tissue is much more pronounced. A wider punch and a limited depth avoid cutting through the curve; the suction pulls the tissue up and partly straightens that curvature.

Lesson content

Afro hair is somewhat harder than conventional hair because the curvature of the follicle inside the tissue is much more pronounced.

  • Use a wider punch to obtain more tissue.
  • Limit the depth of the punch so it does not cut through the curve of the follicle as it advances.
  • The advantage of a device with suction: it pulls the tissue up inside the punch and, as it lifts it, straightens the curvature a little. That makes it much easier to obtain the afro follicle.
