Expensive, distant in-person training: the real cost of learning FUE away from your clinic
In-person hair transplant courses mean traveling, closing your schedule and waiting for the next edition. What they really cost and when they pay off.

In-person training has clear value: you see the technique, talk to who does it, sometimes practice. It also has costs that do not show in the registration fee. This article puts them on the table so you can decide when it pays off and when it does not.
The costs the brochure leaves out
- Closed schedule. A day away from the clinic is patients you reschedule or income that does not come in.
- Travel and lodging. Events happen where the organizers are. For example, the ISHRS live surgery workshop was in Milan in 2024 [1], in Rome in May 2026 [2], and the list of collaborative workshops shows Rio de Janeiro (October 2026) and St. Louis (July 2027) [3].
- Someone else's calendar. If you miss an edition, you wait for the next.
- A single exposure. Two or three intense days, no rewind: if something was unclear, there is no way to review it.
- Little follow-up. When you are back at the clinic and doubts arise, there is no one to check them with.
What it does bring
Seeing live surgery and, in some formats, hands-on practice with supervision is something an online course cannot reproduce. To be clear: the academy does not replace in-person practice, it complements it.
Where online training can fit
Before: you arrive at an in-person course with a mental model and shared vocabulary, and get more from every hour. After: you review what was explained quickly, with lessons you can repeat. In between: you resolve doubts without waiting for the next edition.
How the academy helps
- Online course at your own pace.
- The course in your language, with dubbing and human review.
- AI tutor for syllabus questions at any hour.
- 1:1 session when you want to compare a case with Dr. Trivellini, without traveling.
How each market option solves it
- ISHRS: low-cost online webinars; the July 2025 one cost 25 USD for non-members and was free for members [4].
- In-person courses: the value and costs described above.
- Manufacturers: training tied to their equipment, on terms each company sets.
