Hair transplant training: which options exist and who each one suits
A map of hair transplant training for physicians: ISHRS webinars, live surgery and hands-on courses, manufacturer programs and the online academy, with sources.

A physician or surgeon who wants to train in hair transplantation finds four kinds of offer. This article describes them with dated public sources, includes what the academy offers with its limits, and links to a comparison of each. What we could not verify, we say.
The four routes
1. Webinars and online content from scientific societies
ISHRS runs webinars, among other things. The July 2025 Spanish one lasted two hours and was recorded, with speakers covering manual and motorized extraction as well as transection, quality control and long hair. Free for members and 25 USD for others [1]. Comparison: the academy versus ISHRS webinars.
2. Live surgery and in-person hands-on courses
Live surgery workshops, such as Milan in 2024 [2] or Rome in 2026 [3], and hands-on courses such as Hair Transplant 360 in St. Louis, planned for July 2027 in collaboration with ISHRS [4]. Comparison: the academy versus in-person courses.
3. Device manufacturer training
Programs tied to each company's equipment: for example, Restoration Robotics launched a Master Class series for its ARTAS system in 2018 [5], and Venus Concept describes preceptorships and an ARTAS training program [6]. Comparison: the academy versus manufacturer training.
4. Online academy with an instructor
This is what Trivellini Academy offers: an online course on Roberto Trivellini's method, with a 1:1 session, an AI tutor, a verifiable certificate and versions in several languages.
Summary table
| Option | Main strength | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| ISHRS webinars | Several speakers, low cost, society rigor | Recorded, no individual follow-up |
| Live surgery and hands-on | See or practice live | Travel, schedule and someone else's calendar |
| Manufacturers | Depth on their device | Centered on their equipment |
| Online academy | Your pace, repeatable, with a 1:1 session | Does not replace surgical practice |
How to choose
They are not mutually exclusive. A reasonable sequence: overview (webinar), base and review (online course), checking your case (1:1 session) and supervised practice (in-person event). The problem you want to solve sets the order: the learning curve, transection, patients who refuse to shave, depending on technicians or the cost of traveling.
A transparency note
We are an interested party: the academy is ours. That is why the comparisons include where each alternative wins, and we cite the source for each fact. If you spot an outdated fact, tell us.
Frequently asked questions
- Which option is best?
- It depends on what you are after. To see real surgery, an in-person event; to study at your own pace, an online course; for a cheap overview, a webinar. They can be combined.
